The Best Large Development award is for developments consisting of more than 80 new homes that are designed to create affordable, desirable and inspirational environments, that provide additional facilities for the benefit of the local area. With profits given to Macmillan Cancer Support, the award raised £5,700 last year from donations.
The overall winner of the award in 2018 was Catalyst’s “St Bernard’s Gate” development in Ealing. “St Bernards Gate” is a mixed tenure development built on brownfield land that delivers a high proportion of affordable homes. The scheme integrates existing listing buildings to create a vibrant environment that integrates seamlessly into the local area.
The runner-up, St Modwen Homes, was highly commended for their “Locking Parklands” development in Weston-super Mare. This mixed-use coastal development provides new homes along with shops, a community centre, leisure facilities and employment space.
